- I have a terrible time getting in enough cardio for my daily workouts. Honestly, the last thing I want to do after working out with my trainer for 60min is to walk to the treadmill and spend another half hour there.
So instead of beating myself up about not getting enough BORING cardio in... I have started to play basketball 3-4 days a week. Sometimes I just play ball. Sometimes I play after a workout.
But it has really helped my conditioning and cut my body fat. Now I just need to start being a somewhat not terrible player... and Ill have it all figured out.
- also, if you are into salads, but get bored with the same ol crap. They have some good Grilled Chicken salads at Red Robin. And there are 4 locations or so in town.
Do you guys ever drink those things? the wheat grass shot.
I try to get them most everyday I leave the gym. And I dont know if they really help or if its just in my mind.... but I feel a million times better THE NEXT DAY after I drink one. Again, I dont know much about anything when it comes to being healthy/working out... but the sign in the smoothie shop says that one shot is as good as multiple pounds of vegetables.
so I believe it.
however, they do taste really really bad.
on another note... I rarely drink Red Bull anymore. Mostly because there is a new energy drink called "zip fizz". it comes in a tube and you mix it with water. the good thing is that there is ZERO SUGAR. so there is no crash. and there are a lot of vitamins. get it at HEB or ZipFizz.com
get the Berry or the Orange. the two best flavors.
yo yo...
now thats March, its pretty much time to start working toward looking halfway decent for the summertime. If you start now, you should be able to spenda day out on the boat without having to suck in your stomach the entire time.
as for me, Im back working out with my trainer 4 times a week. and since Im trying to trim up... it involves a lot of cardio. I spend the first 30 minutes lifting. the second 30 minutes running, boxing, eliptical(ing).
I get bored really easily, so its vital that I have something different to do each day. And thats precisely what my trainer does...change it up.
Im also eating a lot from Koriente. its good, and its very clean. and eating is just as important as working out.
good luck with your pre-summer regimine. Dont wait until April to get it going
I feel like I have added 5 lbs of goo to my midsection. It is always hardest to eat healthy when you are traveling. Atleats it is for me. Mostly because of the food at the airport.
I buy things at the airport that I would never buy in a random store. For example, Yogurt Covered Pretzels. Im not a fan of yogurt. Nor am I a fan of pretzels. But for some reason, they were screaming my name. So I ate an entire BIG GRAB BAG of them.
And the only restaraunt that didnt have a line was BURGER KING. And there isnt much to choose from from the healthy menu at an airport burger king.
A banana split, a BBQ sandwich, and some chips.. and thats pretty much my 2 days while I was in L.A.
I went to the gym today. I ate vegetables and shrimp for dinner. So Im on the road to recovery. Finally.
The new Ipod touch is great. And for multiple reasons. Ill start with the reason that is most relevant to this site...
Its the first of the BIGGER (anything not a mini, nano, etc) Ipod that you can comfortably work out with. The other BIGGER Ipods were slightly too large to wear on your arm/waist with total comfortability and maneuverability. The touch is still a long Ipod, but is very thin and light. And since I have gigantic arms, its hides nicely between my massive muscles.
Secondly, watching videos is far more pleasurable than before. The screen is bigger, and the quality is far better. And add to that the fact that you can surf the web from your IPOD. Its the complete nerd package.
I was expecting a pretty important email and my gym had wifi, so I was able to work out, listen to music, and check my email all from the same IPOD.
Its a pretty sweet deal.
I did some semi maxing on bench press today. I havent did the ole max since high school football. and sadly I was one of the weakest on the team. I was probably about 140 back then. Now I am tipping the old scales at a MONSTER-LIKE 165.
I beat my chest as I say that I did 235lbs, 6 times.
Whats up now biatches!?
Ok. Who cares, right.
also, I found a great healthy restaraunt in town. And I even use that delivery service to have them bring it to my house. The place is called KORIENTE.
just go to KORIENTE.COM. Its over near Red River.
its legit. If you are in the area, check it out. or have that dineondelivery place bring it to your house
I had a pretty good week as far as putting in my time/work at the gym. I went 5 times to lift, ran a couple of times, and played a couple evenings of basketball. So I really felt like I was getting somewhere...
until last night.
For some reason I JUST HAD to stop at taco bell around 1am. I ordered 4 hard taco and some cinnamon twists. As soon as I finished that last bite of twist, the shame set in! Could I not control my Taco Bell urge?!?
I really feel like I let myself down. Had i just went to sleep instead of consuming those terrible foods, I wouldnt feel the food guilt that I do right now. Most of the time, I feel like my willpower is unbreakable. But all it takes is one taco bell night to reaffirm the fact that I am a normal human.
blah
I am back to tryin to gain weight. This means the eating of the same few foods over and over again.... until its boring as crap. However, it is working. I have put on 9 lbs in the past month. And for me to put on that much weight is an amazing feat. So here are the foods that I eat (every day)
- steak
- chicken
- milk (a very cheap protein, even though I hate the taste)
- vegetables
- nuts
add to that all the lifting I am doing, and its working pretty well. Again, I am no personal trainer... nor do I know anything more than what is told to me. But it is absolutely paying off for me. And Im not having to cram down a mass array of supplements.
it is hard to GAIN weight without having that annoying BELLY FAT. So I try to do 500 or so sit ups a day and VERY LIGHT cardio.
If you want an awesome activity to train for...
you should start training for a Triathlon. It may sound intimidating, but I feel if I can do it, just about anyone can. And I have done 2! As a matter of fact, Ive trained and competed in 2 different OLYMPIC TRIATHLONS.
Ill give you the bad news first.
A tri is SWIMMING 1 mile, RIDING 20+ miles on a bike, and then running 6 miles. It sounds very intimidating, but once you get into it, its not so bad. They key is to start training early. And that would be RIGHT NOW. The last 2 years, I have started in mid-december and by the time May came around - BAM - I was ready to go.
The good news now.
Its not as much of a grind as training for a marathon. Mostly because you get to switch off on your sports. Swim one day, Run the next, bike the next... and so on. Secondly, there are fun groups you can work with. You can get with "Team in Training". There youll have people to work with, youll make new friends, and you'll be helping the Luekemia Lymphoma society. Thirdly, if you commit to it... youll be in the best shape of your life.
The first one I did, I did because my girlfriend wanted me to do it with her. The second one was because the first one was so much fun.
look into it if you are looking for your next big thing.
B
I played basketball for about an hour tonight. I am slowely getting my basketball legs back. No so much the size of my legs... but more of the ability to do all the running in multiple full court games. And I feel like I have to hustle and work harder than just about everyone else out there... mostly because Im still very rusty at ball handling and shooting the ball.
It is awesome to be able to get my cardio in while actually doing something that I enjoy. Because I hate the treadmill. I hate the stair machine. I hate the bouncing stair machine that almost like a treadmill. I hate it all! all of it, I tell you!
and I grabbed my turkey sandwich and hardboiled eggs in the cafe of my gym and came home for the night.
sadly, TV is all re-runs now.
even more sad is the fact that its 7:30 and I am in bed writing this.
I cure boredom with just going to bed.
I love Saturday nights.
I have the OU/Mizzou game on, as well as the WVU/Pitt game on. Im fully utilizing the PICTURE IN PICTURE. Speaking of football, we fell out of the flag football playoffs after the first game. SO that sucked.
We were beat by a touchdown at the end of the game. And one of our good players blew out his knee. Neither of those are good things. More so about my buddy hurting his knee. The weather was awful too. It was raining and wet and muddy and I think I felt an earthquake as well. It was nuts.
if you play basketball, they are having a 3 on 3 tournament in a couple of weeks. Just send me a private message... Ill tell you about it.
For now, Ill go back to my ribs and football. I have 50 bucks on OU. And Id rather not have to pay Carlos and money.
Its a "cheat night" for me. So Im about to head over to South Congress Cafe and gorge myself.
That being said.... here is the final video for our Fitness Competition with KVUE. They thumped us pretty bad.
Amy was the only person on our team that really lost a lot of weight.
I tried to gain gain gain JUST muscle... to lower my percentage. I did gain 7lbs. But gained 0.7 body fat. Thats a good deal for me personally. Just not great for the team. I think LB dropped 0.5. and Carlos actually went up a few% points.

copy and paste that link.
That Jason dude (the anchor) is real cool dude.
Im not a fan of protein bars, muscle milk, or (insert terrible tasting supplement here) ______. I feel like Ive triend them all in my quest to "get buff".
Finally, I found something that isnt terrible. As a matter of fact, its tastes pretty freaking good. I actually had one for "desert" tonight.
They are called Power Crunchs. and not only do they taste great, but they will surely add an immediate 20lbs of muscle.
I only eat the Chocolate Kind (because I hate peanut butter). But for now, thats all I need.
they are all over the place. I figured Id pass it along because if you are anything like me... you've had it with butt tasting supplement bars, drinks, etc.
I worked out tonight. Did arms (biceps, triceps). I ran on the treadmill. Did some stairs. The same boring crap that I do 4-5 times a week. I hate working out. Ive never liked it. Yet I continue on.
Why?
1. Because I want to offset my skinny grossness with atleast a little bit of muscle
2. "to be healthy"
3. because I like the sense of accomplishment at the end of the night when Ive completed something I totally didnt want to do.
to beat the monotony... I like to play sports.
It used to be softball. now its basketball and flag football. I play basketball at my gym and flag football with austinssc
If you guys out there are looking to play a sport or two to conquer the boredom... you should try austinssc.com. We are actually in the flag football playoffs this weekend. And we are playing a team that kicked our ass last game... so it may be a quick playoffs.
until later...
We had our final "weigh in" today in the bodyfat challenge with KVUE. Considering I didnt have a lot of fat to use, I devised a method to gain an advantage. My method was to gain a lot of weight... as much muscle as possible... and lessen my body fat via that method. Because the more of me thats NOT fat, the less my body fat would be.
I stepped on the scale.
BAM.
up 7lbs. So it seemed to be working.
I got into the tube.
BAM.
I actually went up .7 percent body fat.
So in a team/competing method it was disappointing to not lose fat. However, to add around 7lbs of muscle was a great lift for me. And in a relatively short period of time.
And I owe it to 3 things...
1. Eating right (no crappy sugars at all, lean meats, vegetables)
2. Working out (4-5 times a week with weights, 3 days mild cardio)
3. My trainer... Im weak and lazy. So he motivated and worked me. You can check his blo at fitcapital.com/ahmad
Im lazy. I assume you are lazy.
I eat out a lot. and by "a lot", I mean EVERY SINGLE MEAL.
And its quite tedious to drive here or there to pick up food. So I am going to give you the link to a place I use to order delivery.
(Note: again, I am not being paid for this recommendation.)
https://www.dineondemandonline.com/ordering/process/
They have a ton of restaraunts on their list. They pick it up, they bring it to you; all the while you can sit back and never miss a minute of your Hannah Montanna.
And they have some really healthy places on there as well.
by the way, subscribe to my blog. Even if you never plan to read it again... I'm shooting for 200 or so subscribers on this site.
It would be rude to head to the gym and workout for a couple of hours while i have a buddy in town. So, as a good host, I didnt. However, I did manage to take him and get a couple of basketball games and racquetball games in.
Which leads me to the reason that I post this blog tonight....
NOTE: I am not being compensated by LIFETIME FITNESS. As a matter of fact, not only do that NOT pay me. I pay for my own membership just like everyone else.
To my point; If you are looking for a good place to play basketball, racquetball, squash(?), then the LIFETIME fitness down South is awesome. Its about 60 bucks a month to be a member there (which is roughly double that of 24hr Fitness, where I was before)... but its totally worth it.
Not only do they have the courts, but they have a grill, hair place, massage room, cold and hot yoga, and all the newest machines.
I still work out with Ahmad at 24hr Fitness. But if he wasnt there... id be at LIFETIME all the time, instead of half the time.
I was really worried that yesterday would be disasterous for ye old diet. Except for a peice of pumpkin pie at the end of the meal, I did allright. I didnt gorge myself. I stayed pretty clean with the white meats. And I felt better about myself because of it.
until last night.
I have a buddy from home that came into town last night. And its pretty much been all pizzas and sodas since then. And I dont drink soda at all anymore. But in the last 24 hrs, Ive had 4 of them.
I also havent been to the gym in two days. Besides a couple hours of "Guitar Hero", Ive pretty much been a fat slob.
and this is the worst time to underperform on my diet/work out. I have my final body analysis with KVUE on Tuesday for our competition.
by the way... subscribe to my blog. I need a couple hundred to sign up for this thing so I can keep writing in the next month

Im learning more about this site each day.
from what I gather, its like a myspace for people that want to learn about fitness. You can even find a trainer on here... which is cool.
Speaking of which, If you want to get in shape... and can afford a trainer, do it. It was the best decision that I have ever made in my on again, off again, fitness life.
First off, you learn to do things the right way. I thought I knew how to do things the right way before I started working with a trainor.
- I mean, I played football which consisted of a lot of weightlifting.
- I have read magazines telling me how to do certain excercises
- I watched other people work out in the gym and stole excersizes/techniques
99% of everything I knew was wrong.
Secondly; the motivation factor. I seem to work so much harder when I have someone breathing down my neck
Thirdly (and most importantly), the money! If I spend money on something, Im pretty much going to make sure I get my value from it.
So add those together, and Ive become a lot more fit than at anytime in my past.
the moral is: get a trainer if you can.
read the blog from my trainer at www.fitcapital.com/ahmad
So the guys at fitcapital asked me to write a blog a few times a week on their website. They were under the pretense that I was a super fit guy who eats, sleeps, and breathes working out. Thats not so much true.
I explained that to them. And then suggested that they also get my trainor Ahmad to blog as well. It would legitimize my little ramblings here. He is the counter-balance to my eating/workouts.
I want to eat crap. He doesnt let me (and tells me why).
I want to wrap up my workouts in 40 min or so, he wants to go my full 60 and then make me do "VIP treatment".
So my blogs will be those of the common man. The common man stuggling not only to stay fit and eat right... but mostly struggling just to put on my tennis shoes and actually go to the gym.
Ahmad will be the opposite. He'll give you advice on what to do and what not to do. And he understands the problem we normal folks have with just making it to the gym.
Ill post his link up here tomorrow.
until then,
B
