Even when I eat more protein and vegetables I get crazy carb/sugar cravings. How can I get this under control. I know I'm really hungry and water is filling me up.

Cracings

Did you cut your calories drastically when you started the competition? And simultaneously or independently start exercising more than is normal for you? If you answer yes to either your cravings may be normal as this happens a lot when a person starts an exercise program or diet. It can be a drastic change for what the body thinks is normal and smaller incremenents may be appropriate.

sugar cravings

Are you eating/drinking products with Equal, Splenda, etc?? A lot of fake sweeteners cause sugar/carb cravings in many people....

No Artificial Sweetners

I am not big on artificial sweetners. I dont even really drink soda or juice and if I do its the good stuff not the diet.

This is just a quick answer in the form of a question.
How much fiber are you getting? And are you eating enough "good fats" in your diet? Often times this helps since people that try to lose weight (if this is your purpose) often cut out way too much fat. Fat makes you feel satisfied. just don't eat too much. Even good fats are the same amount of calories.

Next - make sure you are actually eating enough food. Yeah, sure - space your meals out and eat every 2-3 hours but are you eating enough? Part 2 of the same question... Are you eating enough protein?

Just some stuff to think about. hit me up for more in depth answers based on your metabolism, etc.

Fiber?

I know this sounds bad, but I'm not exactly how to get enough fiber in my diet. When I think fiber I think grains and metamucil. :) It is not something I usually care with me. I know I dont get enough fiber. What are some quick snacks with high fiber content?

I love Kashi products. Also, La Tortilla Factory makes some low carb, high fiber tortillas. They have 12 grams per tortilla. That's half your fiber needs for the day! Try eating apples, berries, and high fiber cereals as well. Don't buy a cereal that has less than 6 grams of fiber in it. That's just a good rule of thumb. I hope that helps!
